Our sailing yacht is a 32-foot Triangle ketch designed by Charles Angle of New York and constructed by Grampian Marine in Canada in 1961. She is a one-of-a-kind sailboat, with just 25 ever built and only a few surviving on the water. Itis also a pirate ship, and we feel that the Pirate History of Belize is vastly under-appreciated, as piracy was prevalent in Belize, as seen by the many islands you will explore onboard vessel
She can sleep four people - there are two bunk beds in the forward and one double bed in the companionway (which can be turned into a lovely lounge and a breakfast table when the Dow le bed is not in use), so she is ideal for a family or group of friends on vacation. There is a toilet and a fully equipped kitchen with an alcohol stove, coffee machine, fridge, and a couple of fans. And don't worry - you'll have plenty of solitude because the Captain sleeps in the aft cabin and is on hand to ensure your safety and smooth transition from one Caye to the next! Also, we can take you snorkeling (we have four sets of snorkels on board) and explain you about pirates or teach you how to sail!
Day 01We will meet you at the airport and transport you to the marina, where our gorgeous yacht awaits our next adventure!
On the way, we'll stop for lunch at a nice restaurant and do grocery shopping - one hot prepared meal each day is included, but plan ready for snacks and beverages (clean filtered water is included as well as rum punch),
Breakfasts and other meals are available. The boat has an alcohol stove, so you can eat your omelets or eggs with hot fresh coffee. We provide cutlery, pans, and spices to help you prepare your meals. Please inquire if you require anything special; we may not have it, so make sure to purchase it on the way.
Keep your eyes peeled because we're going to drive down the most scenic of all highways (there are four in the entire nation) - Hummingbird Highway. Please let us know if you'd like to stop for some delicious local coffee or chocolate, homemade ice cream, or a brief swim in the Blue Hole! This is the in-land Blue Hole, not the famed Blue Hole, but it is still quite lovely and should not be missed.
The Reserve Marina is another fantastic site to visit - groomed gardens, mile-long walks down pine-lined roads - keep your eyes out since it is a genuine reserve - no fences are permitted here - so wildlife is all around, wandering free and undisturbed. Coatis, wild peccaries, agouties, deer, and foxes have all been spotted.
At case you forgot something or need some ice, there is also a shop in the marina. Also, if you happen to be traveling between November and May and the night is dark, our marina is the greatest place to witness a natural, unusual phenomenon known as bioluminescence! It is stunning - it cannot be described; you must see it to believe it!
Day 02We start early in the morning, make some hot coffee, and sit tight on the terrace - is there a better way to wake up than with views of the majestic Maya highlands and Sapodilla Lagoon? Sapodilla Lagoon is also home to a variety of birds, crocodiles, and manatees, which you may be able to observe along the route.
We pull anchor in South Water Caye, which stands above Belize Barrier Reef and is part of the country's largest marine reserve - no fishing or industrial activity is permitted in the region, ensuring you the greatest snorkeling experience. There are many beautiful species here, such as angel fish and Creole Wrasse, as well as stingrays, turtles, manatees, eagle rays, and dolphins!
Other activities include birdwatching (you can see herons, Ospreys, pelicans, Frigate birds, and other birds), relaxing on the beach, enjoying some drinks in a bar (there are three resorts on the island), or simply walking around and imagining yourself in the Golden Age of Pirates - this was a popular stop for them because there is a fresh water well in the middle of the island.
This is a one-of-a-kind event for individuals who don't like crowds and prefer to go with the flow!
Day 04After a brief stop at a manatee lookout, we will begin our journey south. Hidaway Caye is a one-of-a-kind island owned by a sailor family. The Caye is located at the southern end of the South Water Caye Marine Reserve and is surrounded by coral reef, so depending on the wind, we can always select the calmest side of the island for snorkeling. Kim, Dustin, and Ama are quite friendly. They created their island from the ground up and are highly familiar with the surrounding seas. Ama and Dustin caught your meal that day around the island, and Kim cooked it so expertly. During the season, you may see your conch Ceviche being cooked or pick which lobster from the cage you want to eat.
It's also an excellent place to go birding or explore the many mangroves that surround the Caye. Or simply pretend to be a pirate and strike up a discussion with other sailors in the bar; there are no regular people here; everyone is an adventurer with plenty of stories to share if you can listen!
Day 05We'll raise our sails again in the morning and sail to Pirate Island, also known as King Lewey's Island. A little island in the Victoria canal surrounded by pristine sea. This island is a playground for adults, with plenty of food and drink options (the greatest food in Belize, in fact!). Test out their King Burger). The snorkeling surrounding the island was fantastic. After a great day, we'll set sail back to the marina, where you may choose whether to stay outside the lagoon at anchor and observe the lovely animals or return to the marina and dock.
Day 06In the morning, grab your luggage and we will begin our journey back to the airport or your final destination. We are confident that you will enjoy that one-of-a-kind trip. Please tag Belize Sailing Adventures in your social media posts – we're on Facebook and Instagram.
