The Hamilton Canal (also known as the Dutch Canal) is a 14.5 km (9.0 mi) canal in Sri Lanka that connects Puttalam to Colombo through Negombo. The canal was built by the British in 1802 and finished in 1804. Its purpose was to remove saline water from the Muthurajawela marshes. Should they prefer, guests may hand over their valuable items to the boat captain for safekeeping.
