St Martin is a stunning Caribbean island known for its mix of cultures and beautiful beaches. The island is split into two, parts one side is French, called Saint-Martin, and the other side is Dutch, known as Sint Maarten. This unique blend of French elegance and Dutch charm makes it a special destination. Whether you're relaxing on the white sandy beaches, exploring the island’s vibrant towns, or enjoying the local food and culture, there’s always something to do on this lively island.
St Martin is also famous for its sailing and boating opportunities. With calm waters and steady winds, it’s a top spot for yacht charters. You can sail around the island to explore hidden coves, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, or venture to nearby islands like Anguilla and St Barts. The island’s warm weather, tropical scenery, and exciting activities make it a great choice for a Caribbean getaway.
A sailing trip around Saint Martin offers lots of options. You could spend a week exploring the nearby northern Leeward Islands, sailing just short distances each day (no more than 21 nautical miles). This allows for easygoing travel with time to stop for shopping, sightseeing, and enjoying meals at fancy restaurants. If you want more adventure, you can take longer and shorter sails, visiting beautiful islands like St Kitts, Nevis, and Antigua. Mixing longer trips with relaxing days of island-hopping, swimming, and snorkeling in quiet spots is just one of the many joys of cruising the Leeward Islands.
This 7-night skippered charter begins at 10 AM in the beautiful Marigot Bay and concludes on the 8th day at 10 AM in the tranquil Crocus Bay. Over the course of your adventure, you'll sail through stunning Caribbean waters, exploring a mix of secluded bays, vibrant marine life, and charming island culture. From leisurely swims and snorkeling in crystal-clear coves to dining at beachfront restaurants and taking in breathtaking views, each day promises a unique experience.
Here is the itinerary for your unforgettable charter journey, designed to offer relaxation, exploration, and the best of the Caribbean’s hidden gems.
Day 1: MarigotYour journey begins in Marigot, the charming capital of the French side of St. Martin. This picturesque waterfront is lined with shops and boutiques where you can browse for local goods, as well as a variety of restaurants offering delicious French cuisine. Whether you prefer casual dining or a lively bar scene with live music, Marigot has something for everyone. You’ll anchor just south of Marina Fort-Louis, where the holding is good, and there's easy access to dinghy dockage. This is the perfect spot to ease into your St. Martin yacht charter, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and savoring the local flavors.
Day 2: Orient BayOn the second day, sail to Orient Bay, located on the northeastern coast of St. Martin. Known for its stunning white sandy beaches and an array of watersports, this area is a popular stop for sailors. You can enjoy activities like kite surfing, windsurfing, and kayaking or relax in a quiet spot for the evening. Orient Bay does have its lively side, with options for nude sunbathing and nightlife, but the serene anchorages on the west side of Île Pinel and Green Cay offer a peaceful retreat. Just remember, entry into the bay can be tricky in certain weather conditions, so be cautious. Dinghy dockage is available, and there are beachside eateries where you can grab a bite to eat.
Day 3: GustaviaNext, head to Gustavia, the main port of entry on St. Barts. This chic harbor is a haven for superyachts and features a charming mix of boutiques selling designer clothes and jewelry, along with fantastic restaurants serving French cuisine. The red-roofed buildings add to the picturesque scenery. Gustavia offers both casual dining and fine cuisine, making it a delightful stop on your journey. Moorings are available here for a fee, but be sure your anchor is well set due to the weedy bottom in some areas. Enjoy a stroll through the streets, visit the local shops, or hike up to Fort Gustav for spectacular views of the harbor.
Day 4: Anse de ColombierOn day four, sail to Anse de Colombier, a beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay on the western tip of St. Barts. Known for its stunning scenery and excellent snorkeling opportunities, this protected bay is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty of the Eastern Caribbean. While there are no dinghy dockages, you can beach your dinghy on the shore. The bay is a marine reserve, so be sure to explore its underwater wonders while keeping an eye out for sea turtles and rays. A scenic trail leads from the beach up to the village of Anse de Flamandes, where you can enjoy fragrant flowers and cacti along the way.
Day 5: Great BaySail into Great Bay, located near Philipsburg, the capital of Dutch Sint Maarten. This bustling area offers everything a sailor could need, including marinas, shops, and a vibrant nightlife scene. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, casinos, and entertainment options to keep you busy during your stay. While there are no moorings available, you can anchor off the breakwaters of the inner harbor. Dinghy dockage is accessible, making it easy to explore the area. Be sure to visit the local museum and enjoy the lively atmosphere as you soak in the culture of Sint Maarten.
Day 6: Road BayYour next destination is Road Bay, the main entry point to the British island of Anguilla. Known for its beautiful sandy beaches and relaxed vibe, Road Bay is a great spot to unwind. Here, you’ll find numerous casual dining options and beach bars, with live music at places like Johnno’s on weekends. While there are no moorings in the bay, you’ll find plenty of room to anchor. Consider renting a car to explore the island’s charming settlements and incredible beaches. For those interested in diving, Anguilla is known for its shipwrecks and vibrant coral reefs, making it a must-visit for underwater enthusiasts.
Day 7: Crocus BayOn your final full day, sail to Crocus Bay, a tranquil anchorage known for its stunning white-sand beaches and dramatic cliffs. This peaceful spot is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling, especially around Pelican Point, where colorful marine life thrives. While there are no facilities for yachts, the beauty of the bay makes it an ideal place to relax. You can beach your dinghy and explore the area, including a walk to The Valley, where you can find art galleries and restaurants like Koal Keel. Spend your last night enjoying the serene surroundings and preparing for your journey back.
Day 8: Disembark at 10 AMAs your incredible week comes to a close, you’ll disembark at 10 AM, filled with memories of stunning scenery, vibrant culture, and unforgettable experiences in St. Martin and its surrounding islands.
