Enjoy a four-hour sightseeing trip that includes a journey through the Dutch Canal Negombo, Negombo Lagoon, and Muthurajawela Wetland, as well as other seashore sites. From the sea, you will be able to observe Negombo and the neighboring villages, as well as various types of boats and fisherman in the lagoon. Bird viewing in Muthurajawela is one of the top attractions in Negombo, and you will also have the opportunity to ride there.
When you get at the starting area, we will give you a quick overview of the tour and its safety requirements. Following that, you will begin your bike from the Negombo Dutch Canal. The Dutch Canal is a 14.5 kilometre (9.0 mi) canal in Sri Lanka that connects Puttalam to Colombo through Negombo. The canal was built by the British in 1802 and finished in 1804. Its purpose was to remove saline water from the Muthurajawela marshes. Following the canal ride, you will see the Negombo Lagoon, which is fed by various rivers and connected to the sea by a small channel to the north, near Negombo city. It is bordered by heavily inhabited territory that includes rice fields, coconut plantations, and grassland.
The area is utilized for farming and fishing. The lagoon's huge mangrove swamps attract a diverse range of water birds, including cormorants, herons, egrets, gulls, terns, and other waders. Lagoon fishing is popular among fishermen, and lagoon crabs and prawns are both delicious and in great demand. After leaving the lagoon, enter the Elakanda Canal, which leads to the Muthurajawela Wetland. The Muthurajawela Wetlands are home to about 192 different types of vegetation and 209 different species of wildlife, including the endangered Slender Loris, as well as 102 different bird species. Some of the identified species have been proven to be native to this lovely wetland.
