The lagoon is alive with birdlife and prawns in abundance and has been a traditional fishing spot for centuries, with popular varieties of fish such as barramundi, mangrove jack, bull eyed mackerel, smaller travilly, barracudas, and crab among the bounty.

Stilt fishing, seated precariously on a narrow strip of wood with one's back bent in a graceful arc above the rolling waves of the Indian Ocean, is an experience not to be missed. The fish are said to flock to the shore with the current in the early morning, only to return to the deep sea at dusk.
